After the bar we went back to the camp and by that time I was allowed to get in my cabin. I had Saul, Tyrone and Harrison, after everyone arrived we went to the park that we were playing on and made Touch Canterbury with our body, it look really cool. When we got back we had dinner, that night it was burgers. But after dinner we had to go to bed our cabin was up till 10:30 at night. In the morning we had breakfast and then set off to have a quick warm up at the grounds. There was a lot of teams there some from the West Coast and Nelson. Week 7 Memoir

Hello, For the past 2 weeks we have been working on an end of year memoir. For me this year it has been a pretty good year for cross country and I can't wait for 2019. I hope you enjoy reading my memoir please leave a comment. My Memoir It all began when I first started school in march 2012, this means I had only had 1 month of school before the school cross country race. Bang, the gun went 25 five year olds ran around the backpaddick twice. I could hear my mum and dad cheering for me, then what do you know I was in front and I could see the finish line in front of me as my mouth got dry and my legs felt like jelly I had won the race. It gave me a feeling that I was good at something and a sense of victory. Cross country running has been something I am really passionate about and good at. I have won my age group school cross country for the last 7 years. It is weird that Mum and Dad are not long distance runners but my great granddad was. So maybe I get distance running

Empty Boots Writing

Hello, For the past 3 or 4 weeks of term we have been working on some creative writing. It has been really fun to write. I hope you enjoy because I now I did. Empty Boots All was silent, as I walked through the forest back to my house,  not a breath of wind could be felt or heard. Suddenly I heard something rustling in the leaves so I went over to investigate it was two pairs of black leather boots with colored laces tired at the top. I was just about to take the boots but they moved and took one step away from me and then another it turned into a jog, I started to chase it but it was too fast. We were running for quite a while until the boots stopped in the sunlight I could see the body shape of a person out and then it turned around and looked at me. I was so scare my legs turned to jelly and I started to run the boots started to chase me. I finally got out of the forest but my house was still 400m away I grabbed my bike and rode off. Eventually I got back to my house and sl

Couching Touch

Hello, Yesterday Finn, Max and I couched the year 5 and 6 copperheads. We got there a little late and we were getting beaten by a good team. At half time it was about 10 - 0 but with I quick pep talk we were scoring and the final score was I think 6 - 15. I think we did really well and now it was the hard part choosing the player of the day but we gave it to Nelia Penrose for running strait lines. Have you coach touch before ?

The Teachers strike again

Hello, Yesterday was the teachers strike and my friends and I were going to go to the movies and see Goosebumps. But before that dad said you have to have a hair cut so I went to the hair dressers and saw my cousin there and invited them to the movies but only Flynn could go. We were meeting at the Palms mall I think I got a bit to much food but it was all about the movie. The movie was great but I won't say any spoilers. I had a great time and can't wait to do it again. What did you do on the teachers strike ?

As we warmed up we saw the other team but there was only 5 of them and there was 9 of us. We got on to the field but it had to be 6 aside and they only had 5 so we played 5 on 5. It was a fast half but they scored 4 tries and we scored 1. After a quick pep talk we were playing. That half was really slow and we got 1 try. The end result was 4 - 2. Have played touch before ?

Image
Hello Last Thursday all the A teams went to the Canterbury sports tournament at Hardly park I went with the Soccer team I was so plumbed I just couldn't wait to play. But besides it was still really fun and our first team we vised was Marshlands and they are like our rivals but sadly we lost we then went on the win the next 2 games and came 7th. We were so proud of what we did and we can't wait to do it again next year. Did you play in the Canterbury sports tournament ?

Caritas challenge

In term 2 week 3 our hub did the Caritas Challenge. The Caritas Challenge involves picking either the sweat it challenge, move it challenge or the live it challenge. The sweat it challenge is when you people bring in used toys and sell them on a market day. Live it challenge is when you live like the people in Timor Leste that includes staying over night and the move it challenge is when nonstop sport for a certain number of hours. Our hub picked the live it challenge and to make the day more exciting we also did a mini sweat it challenge and a mini move it challenge. We then got put into groups to organise what we were going to do during in these challenges. I got put in the mini sweat it. First our group made a time for the market to begin on day we were doing the live it challenge. Then we got our school to bring in any second hand toys, books and games to sell on the market. Some of us got to stay and help with the market but I didn't because I had my sisters Netball that I ha

My Recount

Do you now what the wahine disaster is about ? Well that's what I am going to share with you now it has been my recount and I know term 1 is over but but I still have't showed what I did so sit back and read away PS: I hope you like it and had a great holiday. The Wahine Story “Robertson Gordon”!!! I repeat “Robertson Gordon”!!! ‘The seas are getting really rough out there’, said the harbour master, you should  either turn back or risk it and  push on to Wellington”.  It was the 10th of April 1968 and the ferry was travelling from Christchurch to Wellington their were two storms raging and they were going to meet.  One storm was coming  from the North and one from the South Island. Robertson Gordon ( Captain/me  ) said “thanks but we will risk it.” I knew I should had pulled the boat around but I chose not to. Getting to Wellington that was my plan and the ferry engine started and the people were so excited that's why I didn’t want to turn around. As we went past

Science

This Term we have been doing a science project with or without a buddy. I chose with a buddy and that was Logan because I think we work really well together. This week we have been focusing on our background research and hypothesis and that's what I am going to be sharing with you. Hypothesis It will affect its travel because the wings of a plane play a big role in aerodynamics and its travel of a plane. The different wing span will make the paper airplane go further because the air will keep it going. Background research The way that a paper airplane works is that while the plane is flying forward, air moving over and on the bottom of the wings providing lift. If the wings are longer it fly better because the wings providing air through longer wings will keep it going. Paper Airplane I hope you learned a lot about my background. Have you been doing a science project if you have what is your question ?

Teacher Conference

On the second week of term 2 some year 7 to 8 students got to go out to a teacher's conference this was called voice and choice. That is when some students go to a teacher's conference and speak about what goes on your school but the students say what goes on not the teachers. So me and Trent had to come up with a speech to say to the other teachers that were there. We all got a topic to speak about and a buddy to come up with what we presented ( mine was Trent ). There was a number of topics and our topic was science. This term we get to come up with our own science project and we get to go with a buddy. Mine is Logan and our project is "how does the shape of a paper plane's wings affect its travel distance?" This is mine and Trent's speech. Hi my name is Reuben and this is Trent and we will be sharing with you what it is like in science for the Kaupeka hub for kids. Last term we started to do some science we got to chose out of chemistry, Biology and ph

My Goals for 2018

Term 1 is almost over and I haven't set any goals on this blog I will be setting myself some goals for this year. Goal one, to get better at maths by going to more maths workshops and making sure they are the right ones by checking with a teacher. What I enjoyed this term so far is Tech because you get to work on a different task every week. To be a better at reading by reading more at home. I would also like to try another sport and one sport I would really like to learn is water polo or netball and I am doing that with mate Max. My last goal is to be a better leader in our school because being a year 7 is a big step up from year 6 and I would just like to be a better person in the playground for the younger kids. I hope you liked my blog. Have you set your goals for this year ? If you haven't you should make some goals. Tell me in the comments below. Bye

The Cricket

On Wednesday the 28th of March 2018 the Saint Francis A cricket team went to Cobham to play the Cobham A team. I was a reserve and so was Sam T and Matthew H. We got to school, everyone in our team brought their gear and were ready. We still stayed at school for a bit and then at ten past ten we headed out. We got into the van and headed to play Cobham. Once we got there nearly the whole of Cobham was there. I started to get nervous because this was my first ever real game of cricket. Will was captain so he went to go and decide who was going to bat first or bowl. Will won the toss and he decided to bowl first. We all ran onto the field and Cobham got ready to bat. Will and Josh were going to be the first ones to bowl, it was about 20 minutes in and we got our first wicket because Trent caught him out. We all ran of to Trent to congratulate him, after that we all went out to the same spots as last time. 20 minutes later I put my hands out and caught the ball and they all ran over to me

Bridle Path and Ferrymead

Last Friday our hub and some parents went to Lyttelton to walk the Bridle Path as well as Ferrymead to experience what it was like back in the 1950s. What were the differences and similarities of the time you experienced at Ferrymead to now? What I noticed is that the differences were there was less technology so most things were made by hand and it was harder to make food. The children had lots more jobs and chores to do before and after school. The clothing they wore was long, itchy and thin. At school they had very strict rules and if you broke them the teachers would gave you the strap! They had no computers but they had paper and pencils.  From your experiences what do you think life was like at home in the era of your event? It was hard because not many people had that much money to pay for school, food, water, a house and many more things and only the rich could afford a TV and other technology expenses.  How do you think the early settlers felt climbing the bridle path with

My Trip

Queenstown!!! On the last day of school Max, Sam and I went down to Queenstown together. After we packed our bags we went to pick up two people in my team Col and McKenzie. We went to the airport and met the team. We went inside and got our bags checked and then Sam and me saw Max and we ran to him to say hi. Turns out we were going on the same flight and then we got on the plane and I played some games on my iPad. We finally touched down in Queenstown and we had to go straight to the weigh in. After that was all done we went to the camp that we were staying in and there were about 6 teams that was in the Queenstown tournament. As soon as we got our bags in the room and got our beds set up, our whole team played a big game of infected. Sam and I were sure that someone was missing and sure enough Josh P was in bed feeling so sick. I gave him my iPad to play on and then we kept checking on him while we played infected. In the morning we had to get up at about 7:00 o'clock because

Duathlon

The Duathlon For today's blog post I have deiced to write about the Duathlon. On 7th of March Tuesday 2018, I was getting ready to run a Duathlon. I was so pumped. I said to myself I have to win. I heard the gun shot but it was not my race. It was my sisters, she was going well but she was last on the first lap. I was saying she was going to get wasted but as she was coming around on the second lap she was 4th. Then when she got onto the bike she caught one person and she was 3rd. In the end she got 3rd. Now it was the race that mattered the most, it was my race. I was ready and my Dad was watching from the sideline the gun shot I sprinted the first 200 meters and then found my pace. I was in front of the pack by just a fingernail. It was me and Ethan B the whole time until we came to the bike part and he passed me. I fell behind but on the last lap I caught him. After that I still had 1km of running and I ran and ran because I didn't want Ethan B to pass me. I finely finish

My Treasures

Image
Over the past 3 or 4 weeks we have been sharing treasures and this time it was my turn. For my treasure I had a picture of my Great Grandad He was born in Waimate and died when he was 93. I was just 9 years old. Great Grandad went to the 2nd World War and his dad went to the 1st World War.  He fought in the Pacific Island war alongside his friends and his brother. He went to war when he was only 16 but he was supposed to be 18. He was away for about 18 months. When he came back his mum was so happy to see him and I was so lucky to get to spend time with him and listen to his stories. My second treasure was my green stone fish hook. T his is special to me because this was handed down to my dad as a wedding present. From his WHANGAI WHANAU ( this means adopted parents ). Now Dad has passed it down to me. The fish hook symbolises Maori determination, peace, and good health. My last treasure is my very first rugby trophy. I got player of the day on our last game of the season and then got
