Pool Day

Image
Hello, Last week the year 5 - 8 students at St Francis went to on buses to Waltham pool. When we got there we got changed and sat on the grass with our gear. Then the life guards explained to us the rules and then our teachers told us made us but sunscreen on. Then finally they let us go in one year group at a time. When we got in all our friend group went to the deep part of the pool and started jumping off the edge and doing massive bombs. One of our friends brought a water polo ball and we played for ages and we also had a go on the hydro slide and then got out. After the pool we came back to school and played some games. Then we went home, overall I had a great time. Have you been to Waltham pool before?

Free Choice Blog

Hello, This week we were allowed to write a free choice blog, so I chose to write about my link Ed comment on the Six C's and how we used them on camp. The Six C's are Collaboration, Creativity, Citizenship, Character, Communication and Critical Thinking. Here is my comment hope you like it. In term 4 week 3 the kaupeka hub went on camp to Wainui. During camp I think I showed creativity at search and rescue because we learnt how to fix a broken leg or an arm with a stick. It was pretty easy because all we had to do was find a stick that was thicker than your pinky and longer than your forearm. Then rap some bandages around you the stick and make sure the patient can’t move their arm. I also showed collaboration at search and rescue as well. Because we all worked together to find one person that was hiding with walkie talkies. My favorite part of camp was when we went Coasteering because we got to jump off rocks and look sea-lifes. Have you ever used one of these

Wainui Camp Reflection

Image
Hello, This Term we went to on camp at Wainui for 3 nights and 4 days. We had to write a reflection which included what we found challenging, what was our favorite part at camp, something we learnt, something we were grateful for. Here is my reflection. Camp Highlights   What I found challenging ?  I found the high ropes really hard and not many people could get past the first stage. But lucky I made it, I also found this really fun. I was a bit scare when I was climbing because you had to trust the person on the ground because he was holding you up.  What did I learnt?  I learnt how to find someone then fix there broken leg and then build a stretcher for them it was really fun. I also learnt how to belay, feed the rope to the rope tier and be the rope tier in high ropes.  What was my favorite part? My favorite part was when we went coasteering because I loved jumping off the big rock that was about 5 meters high. I also loved kayaking because I love the water and

Our PBL Driving Question

Hello, For this terms PBL, our driving question is how can I celebrate who I am? A big part of this is culture, we have already been talking about this and the teachers said that we have to perform a piece of music therefore we are learning how to play different instruments. So this term we got given two topics one around music and another around who you are as a person. I will post new updates soon. Whats your PBL topic?

Hello, Last week we went to Centrals for rugby. I was very exited and couldn't wait to play when we got they we were all looking around at the other teams and they were huge. But we stopped looking at them and just focused on our game. First we had a bye so we could watch some other teams play. It was finally our turn to play and we were playing Te Waka Unua, they were some big boys but we new that if we just went around the legs we'd have a chance. We then ended up winning by one try. Our next game was against Ashgrove and also ended up winning that too. Our next game was against Lincoln and sadly we lost, they were a really good team and I think deserved to win. Our next game was against St Martins, this team is the team that we beat in the final of winter sport, so we new how they played and ended up beating them again. Miss Hansen told us after the game that we were in the quarter final against the Kaiapo North Stags. Like Te Waka Unua these guys were much bigger than us,

Teachers Strike

Image
Hi guys, Welcome back to another blog post. On Wednesday all of the teachers in New Zealand didn't work because they were going on strike because they thought that they were not getting payed enough money for the hours that they worked. I think that the teachers should get more money because then we are allowed to get more sports equipment and more trips to see the world. On Wednesday me and my friends went to QE2 pool. We had lot's of fun flipping the rafts on the slide, tackling people of the inflatables and chilling out in the lazy river. What did you do on the teachers strike ? Image from Clipart Library

What do you do for reading ?

Free Choice Blog

Hello, Today I will be sharing with you my first main point for my speech and as you know if you have seen my Speech Topic blog I have put my introduction and now I have done my first main point. It is about Hitler and what he did that was so terrible. Intro  Picture this you get woken up by the sound of loud sirens, two men smash down the door and are carrying huge guns they tell you to get your pyjamas on and step into this massive chamber. Suddenly this weird white kind of fog comes in under the door and through the two small vents, its gas, you struggle to hold your breath, you wonder why is this happening to you? should it happen to you? What do you think ? What would you do ? Hi my name is Reuben and today I would like to share with you my thoughts about racism. First point:  Hitler, Hitler is a perfect example of racism. He came up with a crazy idea to breed a society that he believed was ‘superior’ and was of pure blood. He believed that the race had to have pale ski

Discrimination Art

Image
Hello, As you know if you read my last blog post, this Term our focus is on Discrimination. So for this week we have been doing some art and we could chose either to put a story of our own or use a quote. We also had to include a logo of our own with a slogan. The last thing we had to include was a photo of ourselves. Here is my art: I chose to use a really cool quote on racism and draw my logo that I also found on the internet and my slogan. We had to use a app on our computers to edit out our background and then to make the photo look cooler we used another app called Lunapic. I hope you enjoyed this blog and my art. check back for more later. Have you experienced discrimination ?

This Term's PBL Question

Hello, In Kaupeka hub our PBL is about how we can speak up against discrimination. I learnt that there was different types of discrimination like Racism, Sexism, Ableism and Religious discrimination. We had to pick a topic either Racism, Sexism, Ableism and Religious discrimination, then to pick if you were going to show it in a Ted talk, Drama, Podcast or a Poetry Slam. Then you can chose a peer or just go solo and I chose a peer. Logan and I chose to do a Racism podcast. I think this is a good PBL question because discrimination is just getting worse and worse. Have you ever been discriminated against ?

Cross Country

Hello, Last week we had our school cross country. I didn't do it because I fractured my shoulder and it hurts when I run. But in my age group they did really well. Speech Topic

Hello, For the past two weeks we have been learning about speeches and writing them. This is my introduction and my topic, I hope you like it. My Speech Picture this you get woken up by the sounds of loud sirens then two men smash down your door with massive guns telling you to get your pyjamas on and get in this massive chamber. Suddenly this weird white kind of fog comes in under the door and through the grills, its gas, you struggle to hold your breath, you wonder why is this happening to you, should it happen to you. What do you think? What would you do? This is just one extreme example of racism that happened against the Jewish community in Germany many years ago. This is totally disgusting behaviour and it was lead by an extreme leader called Hitler. He wanted to breed a society that he believed was ‘superior’ including how you looked. He only wanted blonde hair and blue eyed people discrimination happening in our world today. Now I guess you are wondering why I have b

Week 8 Blog Post

Image
Hello, This Term our school has been focusing all about choosing kind. At the start of the year our hub watched a movie called Wonder which is all about choosing kind. I won't say anything about the movie in case you haven't watched it all I will say is that it is a great movie and that it has heaps of cool quotes in it like this ones: When given the choice between being right or being kind, chose kind. You can't blend in when you were born to stand out. Strong people don't put people down. They lift them up. About five weeks later we got to design a T-shirt which was all about choosing kind. I thought it would be really cool to do it as a google drawing. I hope from reading this you have learned heaps about choosing kind. What have you done today to be kind to others ?

Week 9 blog post

Hello, Yesterday we had our north school zones at Jellie park. I was a bit nerves and so was my friend Sam Tippen, I was racing in the 50m Freestyle and the 50m relay and Sam was racing in the 50m breast stroke, 50m back stroke and the 50m relay with me. My first event was the 50m freestyle and there was a about 5 kids their so it was a straight final which was good. They blow the whistle to let everyone know that a race was going to start, "take you marks" bang!! we dove in I swam my heart out but with about 15m to go I got caught in a rope so I pop my head up and realise that is was a false start from someone and they did the race again I needed up coming 2nd. At the end of the race my friends said that I was wining the first time they did it. It was then time for our relay with Sam, Rosa and Casey, I went 1st Casey went 2nd, Rosa went 3rd and Sam went lucky last we ended up coming 2nd again. So that means I am going to Canterbury's for Freestyle. Have you been to Z

Week 7 blog post

Hello, Yesterday the people that qualified for zones in swimming went for a practice at QE11. As you know I love swimming and the first thing we did was just a warm up it was 6 lengths of what ever stroke you were doing for zones and in that case it was freestyle for me. I started to get pretty tiring at the last length but I knew I just needed to push harder. The next thing we did was practice what ever we think we need to work on and for me it was my tumble turns and my dives. I started on my tumble turns and our coach/teacher Maree Scott said that they were really good and my dives were perfect. Have you been to zones for swimming ?

Week 6 blog post

Hello, For the past week our hub have been doing swimming lessons at QE11. Before we went we had to have a buddy an my buddy's name was Edu he is Spanish so it was a bit hard to talk to him, but other then that he was great. On our first lesson they said if you can swim 50 come over in the last lane or if you can only swim 25 come in the second lane or can't swim at all wait hear. I went in the last lane because I am a pretty good swimmer, they told us to then swim 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke. After swimming we picked up our buddy's from the little pool and got changed, after that we hopped on the bus to go back to school and yesterday we swam 500m non - stop in 10 minutes. This is great practice for zones in 2 weeks. I love swimming and can't wait for swimming zones. Have you been to QE11 ?

Last Friday our hub got a task to do and that task was to create a biography about someone that has greatness. I hope you enjoy it and get a lot of facts about my biography. LeBron James Biography LeBron Raymone James ( also known as King James ). LeBron was born on the 30th of December 1984 in USA, Akron, Ohio the same place that another star was born Stephen Curry. But this isn’t a biography of Stephen this is about LeBron James.  Where did LeBron grow up and go to school ? LeBron grew up in Akron where he had a difficult childhood his dad ( Anthony McClellan ) had been to prison so he wasn’t around when LeBron grew up. His mums name was Gloria James. His family were also poor and this meant that he had tough time and struggled a lot. But his basketball coach, Frankie Walker, took LeBron under his wing and let him stay with his family where he could  then focus on his basketball and school grades. LeBron went to high school at St Vincent - St Mary high school in Akron, Ohio.

Hello again, Last week on Friday the 15th of February 2019 the Kaupeka hub our school did our swimming sports at Jellie park. Everyone has to compete in at least two or more advents. I did the 50m Freestyle which I came 2nd in. It was then the 50m backstroke that I got 4th in. It was then my favourite advent 50m breaststroke and I got 3rd but I might go to zones and finally the house relay. My house colour is red and our house got 3rd. Overall I am really happy with what I got because this will be my 4th year going to zones. Have you done swimming sports before if so did you enjoy it ?

Last week the Kaupeka hub had to use a flip grid. Flip grid is when you make a video and other people can see it. This is my speech that I said on the flip grid What Is Greatness Greatness I think Greatness is in everyone but this one man caught my eye and if you are interested in basketball or in sport well I have got the person for you And that person name is Lebron James he has Three NBA Championships. Four Most Valuable Player Awards. Three Finals MVP Awards and finally two Olympic Gold Medals and if you think that's not amazing I don’t know what is. How does he achieve this ? Well firstly he does a lot of hard work like going to the gym or just simply shooting some hoops or just practising his ball skills. Lebron knows he can’t win a game by himself. Teams need great  leaders and he is one of those, he can inspire and motivate his team mates to play their best game. What every team Lebron plays for he always leads from the front scoring the highest number of points. The
